👉  The clearest sign of growing intelligence is an increase in the quality which we call curiosity. Throughout history, there have always been men and women who were not content to know only they were told; they wanted to find out more; they wanted to see if things could be done in a different way, a better way. Without this curiosity, this desire to know there would be no progress. People would simply go on thinking the same thoughts, having the same ideas as their forefathers, there would be no change.

The people who want to think differently, and to act differently, are therefore, very important people. But they are nearly always the people who get into trouble. Why? It is because there is another quality in all of us which fights against this curiosity. That is the quality of laziness or the desire to go on doing things in the ways which we have becorne accustomed. As we get older, we form Ivabits of thoughts as well as habits of actions—and it is nuisance to have to change them. So, we persuade ourselves that it is wrong to change and when sorneone come along with different ideas, we do not like it. This is called 'conservatism'—that is the desire to keep things as they are, to 'conserve'.

Title : Curious people—the promoter of human progress

Throughout the course of histojy some intelligent and curious people questioned the traditional concepts and ways of life. Without the existence of these men no progress in human civilisation would have been possible and the ideas and human action would remain stalled. But these people are vehemently opposed by conservationists who do not want any change in ideas and action.

☀  Write the precis of the following passage and add a suitable title.

👉  There must be order and security, that is, political justice in the world if there is to be civilization.

Though order and sectility are necessary for civilization, they are not enough. It is not much good having security for your possessions. If you have no possessions. Freedom, again, is necessary for civilization, but it is not much good being free, unless you can also get the means to live. The means to live are food and clothes and shelter, or, in modem countries, the money with which to buy them; and if you have no money or very little, and have to work terribly hard in order to get it, then political justice is of little use to you, for you will not have enough leisure to enjoy yourself or enough good things to enjoy.

Therefore, besides political justice, civilization requires another sort of justice called economic justice, which has to do with the sharing of the nations's money and goods. An economically just society would be One in which everybody, who is prepared to work is cellain of getting a reasonable amount of money just as a Politically just society is one in which everybody is reasonably secure and free from the fear of violence.

Title : Economic justice, a necessity forcivilization

Alongwith political justice that ensures order and security, people need economic security. Without the means survival like food, clothes, shelter or the money to buy them political justice providing Order, security and freedom becomes meaningless. So, alongwith the political justis civilization needs an economically just society Where a man can earn reasonably well.
